Uganda (Photographers Without Borders)

Photos from my March 2019 trip to Jinja, Uganda on assignment for Photographers Without Borders.
The assignment was to document the work of X-SUBA Sport4Development Uganda, an NGO that gets disadvantaged children into sports and provides educational opportunities when they can't afford to go to school.

Coach Jay Jay leading an exercise session at a school for children with special needs in Walukuba. It's so important for these children to get exercise before classes each day - it helps them get the energy out and concentrate for class. Jay Jay only leads this program a few days a week, and there's a marked difference in student performance on the days he's there. Jay Jay teaches them about teamwork and sharing while providing upper & lower body exercise.
A family of six lives in the small house. The single mother used to sell vegetables from her farm behind the house; the farm recently stopped producing after the factories were completed. She now breaks rocks at a quarry and works at a fishery to try to send her children to school while also being able to afford food and rent.
