Uganda (Photographers Without Borders)

Photos from my March 2019 trip to Jinja, Uganda on assignment for Photographers Without Borders.
The assignment was to document the work of X-SUBA Sport4Development Uganda, an NGO that gets disadvantaged children into sports and provides educational opportunities when they can't afford to go to school.

Coach Jay Jay holds up a plastic bag he found on the sports field and explains to the students what happens to that plastic bag. Without his explanation, the children don't know how many hundreds of years the bag will be around and that it can eventually end up in their food. Jay Jay hopes that the children will share this knowledge with their family and friends, altering the community's mindset with garbage.
Coach Jay Jay burns a pile of trash that the children collected from the field before playing soccer and netball. Burning trash isn't the ideal way to dispose of trash, but it's the best option in these impoverished communities.
