Uganda (Photographers Without Borders)

Photos from my March 2019 trip to Jinja, Uganda on assignment for Photographers Without Borders.
The assignment was to document the work of X-SUBA Sport4Development Uganda, an NGO that gets disadvantaged children into sports and provides educational opportunities when they can't afford to go to school.

Sarah has owned her restaurant for a few years. It only seats less than ten guests and has no menu. But it's a very popular spot in Walukuba's small market. She learned her business skills at X-SUBA's "A Woman's Worth" program.
Students at a Walukuba school pick up trash from their playing field prior to participating in sports. This is part of X-SUBA's "Let's Play Green" initiative. Students pick up all of the trash that they can and bring it to a pile for the coaches. The coaches then go into the dangers of littering and show children how to properly dispose of trash. Littering is a major problem in these poor communities, and X-SUBA is trying to change this attitude starting with the children.
X-SUBA coaches discussing the harms of littering with students before going into their sports games. Coaches use this opportunity, when children are engaged because of the sports, to teach them lessons they don't get in school.
