Chicho runs the oldest surf school in Huanchaco and can trace his heritage back to the Chimú civilization, which dates back to 650AD. One of his ancestors was known as the "surf king" of the Chimú and he is proud to carry this on today. Chicho wants to keep the culture alive, for the historical significance, pride in their heritage, and for the economic importance to the area. Chicho also shapes his own surfboards and works with fishermen to help make their caballitos last longer, given the fragility of the wetlands from which the materials are sourced.
