One of the water service initiatives started in Cerrito de la Virgen was a water tower to supply water to homes. After construction, the water tower has been out of service for several years. Instances of corruption, theft, and poor maintenance have kept it from providing water to the community. The community must get their water by carrying buckets and jugs to the smaller tanks scattered around the community, which only have water for 2-3 days out of the month.
With the help of Otra Cosa Network, this resident of Cerrito de la Virgen was able to attend sewing classes in 2017 in the next city over. She had the total support of her family, and everyone pitched in to help while she was away at classes. She learned everything she could about sewing and was able to borrow a machine to keep in her home. She now has a successful sewing business that reaches into Peru's third-largest city, with a variety of clients.
